Paperboy: A Patchwork of Memories is a mixed media collage on board written by Danny Parker and illustrated by Bethany Macdonald which was long-listed for the Best Designed Children’s Illustrated Book in 2020. The picture book is about a boy, who undergoes a difficult journey but manages to survive the ordeal by scavenging bits and pieces of discarded materials to collate and glue a “bird”, a “little tree of happiness”, and a comfortable refuge for himself. He mends his broken world bit by bit. In 2022, the State Library of New South Wales in Sydney exhibits some of the original collages of Paperboy, collages that are heart-touching and therapeutic.
